DESTINATION OF ENDLESS DIVERSITY

The Republic of Indonesia comprises the vast group of island and inselts strung out along the equator, spanning the Asian and Australian continents. Extending between latitudes 6 degree North and 11 degree South, and longitudes 95 degree West and 141 degree East, its stand like a sentry guarding the sea avenues that link the Pacific with the Indian Ocean. Due to its location on top of zone on the earth's crust where two of the world's great mountain belts - the Circum Pacific and the Tethyan or Mediterranean-Himalayan Mountain system - meet, the Indonesian archipelago belongs to the most highly volcanic regions in the world and even today, active mountain-building still take place. The country has more than 400 volcanoes, many of which are active. Among the highest are Kerinci (3,800 m) on the island of Sumatra, Semeru (3,667 m) on Java, and Sangir Island's (3,000 m) tall volcano. The highest summit in Indonesia is the (non volcanic) 5,000 m tall Jayawijaya Peak in the province of Irian Jaya.

The Indonesian archipelago is the largest in the world to farm a single state. According to the current official count it consist of 3,667 islands and inselts and has a total land surface of 5,193,166 square kilometer. The country is divided into 33 provinces which together hold a total of 247 regencies and 3,257 districts.

Because of position of the archipelago, the country wich falls within the boundaries of the equatorial tropical rain belt, has characteristically tropical climate. Its geographical make-up as archipelago of mostly small islands surrounded by sea. However, it allows an active air circulation and a result of which the climate is more closely similar to that prevailing in the equatorial zone above the world's ocean.

The lowest average temperature is 18 degrees Celcius and winds are usually gentle. This kinds of climate generally benefits the people, as it makes year-round agriculture, cattle breeding and fishery possible.

Summer, winter, autumn and spring are unknown in Indonesia. Only two seasons prevail - a dry and a wet, or rainy season. In most areas the rainy season lasts from around December up to March, and the dry season from May to October, with transition periods characterized by shifting winds and capricious weather occuring in the months March to May and September to November.

With the comfortable climate of Indonesia, tourist from any part of the world can make their choice which month to visit the country. They can come anytime they want. Infra and suprastructure of tourism in Indonesia are well preserve.
